Shared Language Program

Celebrating the 10th year of the program, and opening a novel continuing education course for 40 teachers

Over 10 years ago, we launched a trailblazing project entitled "Shared Language." This is a joint project with the Ministry of Education which emphasizes Arab students becoming proficient in the Hebrew language as a springboard for occupational development and removing language barriers for future inclusion in higher education and the job market. The close human encounter and the discourse created between teachers and students goes far beyond learning the language. Over the years, we are repeatedly amazed by the unique stories and experiences emerging among the teachers, students, and the Arab and Jewish teams in the framework of this program. We incessantly get more and more proof that education is the path to shared society.

This year, we are proud that 14 new teachers joined the faculty members of the Shared Language program. This is an increase of 20%, after working with 69 schools and 73 educators last year, reaching no less than 8,814 students.

This year too, as part of our preparations for the opening of the school year, in the framework of the program, we conducted the annual training for new and veteran teachers at the Givat Haviva campus, with 40 teachers from throughout Israel. The exciting training included a workshop by Renana Oron, a leading educator from the Teach First Israel program, who advocates for improving education in the periphery and reducing social gaps in Israel. The program's teachers had an intensive workshop about the education system in Arab society, conducted by Dikla Tomer Kiel and Yara Baloum from the Jewish-Arab Center for Peace at Givat Haviva. As part of the training, a new pedagogical program was presented for the coming school year
